Nursing Early Admission for High School Seniors

Introducing Sentara College of Health Sciences

Early Admission for High School Seniors for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree

If you have currently graduated from high school in the class of 2010 or are an upcoming high school graduate in the class of 2011, and have an interest in nursing as a career, please consider Sentara College of Health Sciences for your educational goals.

We are introducing interested high school students to our Program through Early Admission.  Early Admission allows the high school student to apply to our College and be considered for conditional acceptance.  Conditional acceptance means as long as you complete our requirements you will become accepted to the College and a placeholder will be made for you in our Nursing Program.  Quality nursing programs generally have waiting lists which can delay your educational and career goals.  With Early Admission, you will be guaranteed a seat in our Nursing Program upon successful completion of our requirements.  Additionally, this is the only Program of available in the region for high school students.

Students choose Sentara College of Health Sciences because of the clinical experience and quality education they receive.  We expose our students to the most advanced technological clinical sites in the area and provide the greatest amount, variety, and specialty clinical hands-on training and educational opportunities available for the nursing profession.  Sentara will give you the skills you need to become a competent and confident nurse upon graduation.  We maintain excellent student retention rates and prepare our students for successful completion of their licensure exam.  All traditional students/early admit are eligible to sit for the licensure exam with the Virginia Board of Nursing.  In fact, our pass rates and retention rates are ranked among the highest in the state of Virginia.  Our College is accredited by ACICS, approved under the US Department of Education, and certified by SCHEV.

In order to be eligible to apply to the Early Admit Program you must meet all of the following by the application deadline:

1.       Apply now through 10-15-10 if you graduated in 2010 OR apply through 3-1-11 if you are in the graduating class of 2011.  Print the application:  http://www.sentara.edu/students/application.shtml

2.       Must have a high school cumulative G.P.A. of 3.3 at time of application and maintain the cumulative through graduation.

3.       SAT total composite score must be 1,500 or above with a minimum score of 500 in math and a minimum score of 500 in reading OR ACT score of 21 or above.

We are currently holding information sessions exclusively for the Early Admission Program.  No registration is required.  The information sessions will be an overview of the Early Admission Program and the Nursing Program, to include all of the requirements.  If you cannot make the initial sessions, additional sessions will be posted at www.sentara.edu under “Prospective Students” on the “Academic Planning and Information Sessions” page.  If you do not meet the minimum criteria to apply, you are welcome to consider our Traditional BSN Program.  If you are a 2010 high school graduate, please refer to the application to begin your fall 10 semester with the appropriate general education courses.

I hope to see you at an information session.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me at lmwaterf@sentara.com or call 757.388.2862.
