The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is available to current students. The Student Assistance Program is a service provided by the College to help students resolve personal, family and school-related issues. The SAP is dedicated to providing the best confidential, professional assistance to help you solve problems in order to promote your emotional well-being. The program provides unlimited counseling sessions at no cost to you while you are an active student at the College.
Whenever a problem or issue is negatively affecting you – whether it’s at home or at college or a combination of both – help is available from the SAP. The program offers help with a broad range of life issues including, but not limited to:
The SAP is for students only. If your presenting issue is related to a relational problem, the SAP Counselor may ask to have your spouse/significant other attend one or more sessions with you.
The SAP Counselor, Jean C. Crawford, Ed. D. comes from the field of Counseling Psychology. Her studies took her to Spain, Colorado, and California. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She has been practicing since 1982 in the Tidewater area. She has taught for several years at Old Dominion University and continues to be part of the Adjunct Faculty. Over the years, Jean’s clinical expertise has included stress-related issues, grief and loss, trauma, anxiety and depression, women's issues and family violence. Her style is open and caring and has a solution-focus basis. She loves dance and music. Dr. Crawford's office is located at SCOHS in room 110.
