Academic Planning for the LPN to BSN Program:

  • If you have general education courses that need to be reviewed by the College, please plan to attend one of our weekly information sessions or schedule a private appointment. 
  • Application Deadline for the 2013 Program Start Date is June 8, 2012.
  • Please read all information below.  Current updates concerning second-degree seeking students, grade requirements, and deadlines.

Your Exceptional Learning Experience:

  • Nursing courses are combined with clinical experiences in the hospitals of one of the nation’s most innovative healthcare systems. Through the foundation built by completion of prerequisite courses, instruction in nursing skills by the school’s faculty and hands-on clinical experience, you learn to give coordinated, preventative and restorative care in a variety of clinical settings.
  • Your Learning Experience is like no other. With 67 semester credits, that includes 945 clinical and skills lab hours, you will be well prepared with the competence and confidence you need to work as a Registered Nurse.  The clinical experiences you will receive are the most hours offered than any other program.
  • Clinical experiences throughout the Program are at various times and facilities.  Your clinical experiences are in a variety of settings in premium clinical sites, offering you the most exposure than any other program offering.
  • In order to be considered for the LPN to BSN Program, you must currently be a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • The LPN to BSN Program length is 2.5 years.
  • The LPN to BSN Program starts once per year.  
  • The junior and senior years are are taught between Monday and Friday during the day.  Clinicals may be Monday through Saturday including days as well as evening.  Additionally, the majority of testing is done on-line and students may hace online tests open at any time throughout seven days of the week, at the instructor's discretion.
  • Graduates are eligible to sit for the NCLEX exam. 
  • Graduates of the LPN to BSN Program are required to take the National Council Licensing Examination, NCLEX-RN, administered by the State Board of Nursing in order to practice nursing in any state.
  • LPN's are awarded 13 advanced placement credits in the first semester of their junior year.  Two courses are clinicals and one course is Care Partner.
  • At Program completion, you will receive 126 credits and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. 
  • The SCOHS is institutionally accredited by the national accreditor, Association of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  Additional information can be found by visiting ACICS at www.acics.org , select "students" and "transfer of credit."

First Time Degree Seeking Applicants: LPN to BSN Gen. Education Course Req.:

All general education courses must be completed at an accredited institution with a “C” or better.  General education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences. Sentara College of Health Sciences does not expire general education courses. 

In order to be eligible to apply to Sentara College of Health Sciences, LPN to BSN applicants must have 30 credits completed which must include Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Developmental Psychology.  All remaining 16 credits must be completed by Jan. 1, 2013.  Application Deadline for the 2013 Program Start Date is June 8, 2012.

Second-Degree Applicants-LPN to BSN Gen. Education Course Requirements:

All general education courses must be completed at an accredited institution with a “C” or better. General education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences. Sentara College of Health Sciences does not expire general education courses. 

In order to be eligible to apply to Sentara College of Health Sciences, LPN to BSN applicants must have PROOF OF ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DEGREES:  AA, AS, or Bachelor Degree AND the completion of the following general education course requirements; Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Developmental Psychology.  Microbiology w/lab must be completed by Jan. 1, 2013.  Application Deadline for the Class of 2015 is June 8, 2012.
