Academic Planning for RN to BSN:

  • If you have general education courses that need to be reviewed by the College, please plan to attend one of our weekly information sessions or schedule a private appointment. 
  • The RN to BSN is ALL on-line.  There is a on-ground competency exam for health assessment.
  • NOTE:  Due to varying state regulations related to distance learning programs, we are only able to accept applications from persons who live in the states of Virginia, West Virginia, District of Columbia, North Carolina and Maryland.

Your Exceptional Learning Experience:

  • The RN to BSN Program can be completed on a full or part-time basis.  
  • The RN to BSN Program is for current Registered Nurses seeking the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.
  • RN to BSN Students receive 48 advanced placement credits.  The Program consists of 26 credits.  46 general education courses are transferred in to the College if you are a first-degree seeking student and 22 general education courses plus your proof of degree are transferred in to the College if you are a second-degree seeking student.
  • At Program completion, you will receive 120 credits and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. 
  • The SCOHS is institutionally accredited by the national accreditor, Association of Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).  Additional information can be found by visiting ACICS at www.acics.org , select "students" and "transfer of credit."

First Time Degree Seeking Student-RN to BSN Gen. Education Course Req.:

All general education courses must be completed at an accredited institution with a “C” or better.  General education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences. Sentara College of Health Sciences does not expire general education courses. 

To be eligible to apply for the RN to BSN Program, applicants must have 25 credits and must include Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Developmental Psychology, and Statistics.  

If accepted to the Nursing Program, the remaining general education courses, must be completed by the end of the Program.

Second Degree Seeking Applicants-RN to BSN Gen. Education Req:

All general education courses must be completed at an accredited institution with a “C” or better. General education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences. Sentara College of Health Sciences does not expire general education courses. 

In order to be eligible to apply to Sentara College of Health Sciences, RN to BSN applicants must have PROOF OF ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DEGREES:  AA, AS, or Bachelor Degree AND completion of the following general education course requirements: Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Developmental Psychology.
