Advanced Placement for Programs
Advanced Placement for All Programs:
- For comprehensive details on all Advanced Placement guidelines, to include course specific challenge requirements go to specific Catalog page
- Before consideration for advanced placement, applicants must meet Program admission requirements and be admitted into the respective Program.
- The Advanced Placement Committee (sub committee of the Admissions Committee) will review the applicant file to determine best course of action for the applicant.
- All required paperwork must be submitted prior to the Advanced Placement Committee’s review. Transfer credits are considered credit from other institutions accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or the Council for Higher Education Accreditations (CHEA).
- Admission to a particular course/semester is contingent upon available space in the course for which the student is requesting to enter. Placement availability will be determined by the Program Official.

Cardiovascular Programs:
Eligible Students:
- Registered Sonographers in either of the ultrasound curriculums.
- Registered Radiologic Technologists certified in cardiovascular technology in the invasive curriculum.
- Cardiovascular Technology graduates from the School who are seeking a second specialty.
- When considering awarding credit for advanced placement, the School uses factors such as transcripts, verification of employment, years of experience, and references.
Registered Nursing Program:
Credit by Challenge
All Licensed Practical Nurses:
- Will receive full credit for Nursing 101.
- Have the opportunity to challenge Nursing 301 and Nursing 401.
- Must register for Nursing 201 and Nursing 501.
Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC):
- Have the opportunity to challenge Nursing 101 course to include:
- Head to toe assessment.
- Nursing process.
- Comprehensive written exam to include pharmacology.
- May challenge Nursing 301 and Nursing 401 courses as applicable.
- Must register for Nursing 201 and Nursing 501.
Credit by Transfer - External Transfer Students:
- When considering awarding credit for nursing courses completed, the School uses factors such as final grades, hours for class and clinical experience, and similarity of the courses/clinical time completed.
- The Admissions Committee will make final determination of eligibility.
- Transfer students must attend a minimum of Nursing 401 and 501.
Surgical Technology Program:
External Transfer Students:
- The Surgical Technology Program attended must be an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited program and must be a student who attended but did not complete the Program.
- When considering awarding credit for Surgical Technology courses completed, the School uses factors such as final grades, hours for class and clinical experience, and similarity of the courses/clinical time completed.
- Transfer students must attend a minimum of ORT 300.
Military Trained Surgical Technologists:
- Must have completed a military surgical technology training program.
- When considering awarding credit, the School uses factors such as transcripts, experience, references, hours for class and clinical experience, and evaluation of course descriptions, outlines and syllabus for evaluation.
- Validation of knowledge through course exams and CPEs may be required to determine placement and students are required to complete the PAE.
Credit by Challenge:
Any Surgical Technologist who meets the criteria below will have the option to challenge out of each semester with an exam:
- Been unable to sit for the certification exam because of education constraints.
- Been trained on the job.
- Attended a non-accredited military training program.
- Attended a non-accredited health programs school.
- Current enrollment in another program and wishes to transfer.
