Sentara College of Health Sciences originated with a Registered Nursing Program over one hundred years ago; it was Norfolk’s first nursing program. Created in 1892 by the 24-bed “Retreat for the Sick,” the two-year program was originally taught by physicians. Today, Sentara College of Health Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. We offer students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree with three tracks: Traditional BSN, LPN to BSN, and RN to BSN.
We have two campus locations for all nursing students. Our main campus is located in Chesapeake, VA. Our distance learning site is located in Hampton, VA. at the Peninsula Higher Learning Center. We offer all three tracks at both campus locations.
Registered Nurses are employed in a wide variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, long-term facilities, physician’s offices, and health agencies. Registered Nurses are one of the largest employment sectors in the United States. They are in critical shortage throughout the country, therefore, the employment need is great and stability in employment is stellar.
As a Registered Nurse you will provide and coordinate client care. Working closely with the client’s physician and other members of the healthcare team, you will assess client needs, develop plans of care, administer treatments, provide client education, and direct a variety of multi-skilled caregivers. Registered Nursing incorporates the administration, management and evaluation of healthcare to clients across the life span, from diverse cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and in various healthcare settings.
