The Sentara School of Health Professions, in collaboration with Old Dominion University (ODU), is offering the traditional Registered Nursing Program, via distance learning, in Hampton, VA.

The Sentara School of Health Professions originated with a Registered Nursing Program over one hundred years ago; it was Norfolk’s first nursing program. Created in 1892 by the 24-bed “Retreat for the Sick,” the two-year program was originally taught by physicians.

As a Registered Nurse you will provide and coordinate client care. Working closely with the client’s physician and other members of the healthcare team, you will assess client needs, develop plans of care, administer treatments, provide client education, and direct a variety of multi-skilled caregivers. Registered Nursing incorporates the administration, management and evaluation of healthcare to clients across the life span, from diverse cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and in various healthcare settings.

Registered Nurses are employed in a wide variety of healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, long-term facilities, physician’s offices, and health agencies. Registered Nurses are one of the largest employment sectors in the United States. They are in critical shortage throughout the country, therefore, the employment need is great and stability in employment is stellar.

Graduates from the School will receive a diploma in nursing and be eligible to take the NCLEX exam to become a licensed registered nurse. Graduates from the School may pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing through a university RN to BSN Program.
