Allied Health Admission Process

 

Admission Process and Application Information for the Cardiovascular and Surgical Technology Programs:

General Admission Requirements:

Step 1:Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee, and Program specific college-level prerequisite official or unofficial transcripts. Transcripts are required to be submitted along with the application. If turning in unofficial, please submit official as soon as possible.  
Step 2:Schedule and take the HOBET (Cardiovascular or Surgical) preadmission test administered by the College.

Submit remaining official college-level transcripts, if required and/or completed after application has been submitted. 

For Cardiovascular Technology Program:  Applicants will be interviewed after successful completion of the HOBET and proof of enrollment in remaining prerequisites.

For Surgical Technology Program, July 2012 start date: Applicants will be interviewed after successful completion of the HOBET and proof of enrollment in remaining prerequisites.

Additional Program Information and Requirements:

  • Admission decisions are based on the basis of HOBET test scores, prerequisite grades, interview, and space availability. Full admission decisions can only be determined after completion of all the prerequisite courses and preadmission testing.
  • Admission decisions currently for the Surgical Technology Program is rendered within 30 days of taking the HOBET test. Beginning with the July 2012 Program Start Date, Surgical Technology Program applicants will be required to interview before an admission decision is rendered. 
  • Admission decisions for the Cardiovascular Technology Programs are rendered after taking the HOBET test and completing the Interview process. Exceptions occur with all Programs when a student has not completed or turned in the prerequisites required to render a decision. 
  • Conditional acceptances can be given for the Cardiovascular or Surgical Technology Programs if proof of registration in final courses are provided only after the HOBET test and interview.
  • You must complete Program specific prerequisite courses with a “C” or better prior to starting the Program, unless otherwise specified by the College.
  • Submit any remaining documentation upon the College’s request.
  • If you are applying for one of the Cardiovascular Programs, a personal interview is required. You will be contacted by the College to schedule. 
  • If you are applying for the July 2012 Surgical Technology Program Start Date, a personal interview is required.  You will be contacted by the College to schedule.
  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
  • Admission is competitive.

  • Applications received after a Program has been filled will be considered for the next admission cycle.
  • Applicants should possess basic computer skills.
  • Early application is strongly recommended to allow sufficient time for testing, receipt of transcripts and completion of additional requirements.
  • Sentara College of Health Sciences seeks to admit qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin or disability provided the applicant is qualified to perform the tasks necessary to meet the requirements of the Program/Course with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required and must be 18 years of age by the first day of class. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the USA.
    • The College does not currently process or maintain students on a student visa. Resident Aliens must submit a photocopy of both sides of their immigration card when applying to the School. Applicants must also comply with all other entrance requirements required by the College, including successful scores in pre-entrance examinations.
    • According to 8 CFR 214.3 Sentara College of Health Sciences is not an approved College for enrollment of F and M non-immigrants.  (Definition of a non-immigrant - a alien who seeks temporary entry into the US for a specific purpose).
  • If you have transcripts outside the USA, you must obtain a foreign transcript evaluation.
  • Take TOEFL, if required, for Programs.
  • Prospective applicants and students must demonstrate appropriate, responsible, respectful and professional behavior/conduct throughout the entire admission process and in all interactions and communications with the College.  The College reserves the right to deny admission or rescind acceptance to anyone who does not conduct themselves in this manner.
