Nursing Admission Process

The following information is provided for all four tracks:  Traditional BSN, LPN to BSN, RN to BSN, and Early Admission for high school seniors.

2013 Program Start Date - Admission Process for Traditional BSN Degree

Application:

Program Start Date for 2013 (Class of 2015):

Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee, Program specific college-level general education course requirements, and official or unofficial college transcripts. 

  • Apply by June 8, 2012.  
  • First-Time Degree Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the Traditional BSN Program, you must have thirty (30) general education credits, which must include Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/ lab, Chemistry w/ lab, Statistics, and Developmental Psychology WITH a minimum of "C" in each general education course requirement. All remaining 16 credits must be completed by the end of the Fall 2012 semester.  See the Traditional BSN page for the complete list of general education course requirements.
  • Second-Degree Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the Traditional BSN Program, you must have proof of degree in either an AA, AS, or Bachelor Degree AND show completion of the following general education courses with a minimum of "C" or above; Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Developmental Psychology.  Microbiology w/lab must be completed by the end of the Fall 2012 semester.   • If turning in unofficial, please submit officials within 10 days.  Do not hold your application waiting on officials.  You may order officials after the application has been turned in.

Completion of Preadmission Testing by June 8, 2012

Schedule and take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) administered by the College.

  • TEAS study guides can be found by visiting ATI.
  • Schedule your preadmission test by calling 757-388-2666 or register for testing.
  • Each TEAS test is $35.00 and is the responsibility of the applicant.  Bring cash, credit or debit card on the day of your scheduled test.
  • You have two opportunities to take the TEAS test by June 8, 2012.

Official Transcripts- Due by June 8, 2012

  • All outstanding official transcripts of general education courses completed are due.  
  • Any remaining official transcripts taken after June 8, 2012 are due by the start of the Program.

Care Partner Completion by August 17, 2013

  • The Care Partner Course is offered at the College and is the only approved Course.  If you have been trained at the College previously, you have met the requirement.  Care Partner is offered multiple times per year.  Certificate of completion will be required.
Acceptance:

Notification of acceptance to the Nursing Program by June 15, 2012

  • Notification of acceptance to the Nursing Program will be postmarked by June 15, 2012 for the 2013 Program Start Date. Nursing Program courses will begin Spring 2013.

2013 Program Start Date - Admission Process for LPN to BSN Degree

May 2012 Program Start Date - Admission Process for RN to BSN Degree

Application:

May 2012 Program Start Date (Class of 2013 for full time schedule & Class of 2014 for part time schedule):

Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee, Program specific college-level general education course requirements, and official or unofficial college transcripts.  

  • Application deadline May 14, 2012.
  • First-Time Degree Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the RN to BSN Program, you must have twenty-five (25) general education credits currently OR show proof of enrollment for the Spring 2012 semester of obtaining the 25 general education credits AND must include Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Development Psychology WITH a minimum of "C" or above in each general education course requirement. All remaining general education course credits may be completed by our Program graduation.  See the RN to BSN page for the complete list of general education course requirements.
  • Second Degree-Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the RN to BSN Program, you must show proof of degree in either an AA, AS, or Bachelor Degree AND show completion OR Proof of Enrollment to complete for Spring 2012 of the following general education course requirements with a "C" or above in each course:  Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Developmental Psychology.  Microbiology w/lab may be completed by our Program graduation.  See the RN to BSN page for the further details on general education course requirements.

  • Submit remaining official transcripts of the remaining general education courses.  RN to BSN students may complete the remaining general education courses by Program graduation. 
  • Provide a copy of your R.N. license to the College.
  • NO PREADMISSION TEST IS REQUIRED.

Early Admission for High School Seniors

 

Application:

Applications for the high school graduating class of 2012 will be accepted from 1-1-2012 through 3-31-2012.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program for the graduating Class of 2016

Enrollment to the Sentara College of Health Sciences:

Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee.  All attachments requested on the application must be provided at the time of application.  

  • If you are an upcoming graduate for 2012, apply between Jan. 1, 2012 and no later than March 31, 2012.
  • Notification of conditional acceptance to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program at Sentara College of Health Sciences is after your application has been accepted.
  • Once you have been conditionally accepted to the Nursing Program you will be assigned a recruiter who will work with you concerning information about your prerequisite general education course requirements and other steps necessesary to your successful entry to the Nursing Program.
  • To apply you must meet the following:  High School GPA of 3.3 or higher as of Dec. 31, 2011; have SAT composite score of 1,500 with a minimum of 500 in verbal and 500 in math OR an ACT score of 21.
  • The GPA requirement must be maintained through the end of the senior year and the final official high school transcript must be submitted to the College.

Requirements and Process for Full Admission:

General Education Course Requirements

  • Freshman Year:  You must complete 30 credits of the required general education courses required by the College and must include; Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, and Developmental Pscyhology.  
  • You will have through the end of the Fall 2013 semester to complete the remaining 16 credits of required general education courses and must maintain EITHER a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale on all college transcripts OR a 3.5 G.P.A. on the required general education courses at all times throughout this time.
  • College general education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences and must be taken at an accredited instituition.  
  • Advanced Placement courses with a "3" or above, Dual Enrollment courses, and CLEP/DANTES exams are acceptable.  Those transcripts may be submitted at time of application or when you have proof of completion.
  • Early Admission for High School Senior applicants who are intending to proceed through full acceptance will be required to submit college level general education transcripts and proof of enrollment during the first year and a half upon completion of each semester, to their assigned recruiter (By end of the Fall 2013 semester).  Early Admission applicants who do not complete the minimum general education course requirements by the end of Fall 2013 OR who do not meet the minimum GPA requirements, will become a regular applicant for the Traditional BSN Program and be notified in writing.  You must maintain the curriculum schedule set forth by the College.
  • Once you have completed your 46 credits as described above, you will begin the Nursing Program in your second semester of your sophomore year which is Jan. 2014.

  • Each TEAS test is $35.00 and is the responsibility of the applicant.  Bring cash, debit or credit card the day of your scheduled test.
  • You have two opportunities to take the TEAS test. The score for the TEAS must be national average on all four sections of the test after two attempts. 

Care Partner Completion by August 1, 2014:

  • The Care Partner Course is offered at the College and is the only approved Course.  Care Partner is offered multiple times per year and certification of completion is required.
Full Acceptance:

Notification of full acceptance to the Nursing Program by June 15, 2013.

  • You will receive a letter granting full admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at the College when you have completed all of the above requirements up through June 8, 2013. 
  • If you do not meet the criteria, you will considered with the pool of regular applicants.

Prospective applicants and students must demonstrate appropriate, responsible, respectful and professional behavior/conduct throughout the entire admission process and in all interactions and communications with the College.  The College reserves the right to deny admission or rescind acceptance to anyone who does not conduct themselves in this manner.
