Nursing Admission Process

The following information is provided for all four tracks:  Traditional BSN, LPN to BSN, RN to BSN, and Early Admission for high school seniors.

Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Admission Process

Application:

Now accepting applications for the 2015 Program Start Date (Class of 2017)

Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee, Program specific college-level general education course requirements, and official or unofficial college transcripts. 

  • Apply by June 15, 2014.  
  • First-Time Degree Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the Traditional BSN Program, you must have thirty (30) general education credits, which must include Anatomy and Physiology I w/lab, Chemistry w/ lab, Statistics, Composition I and II, and Developmental Psychology WITH a minimum of "C" in each general education course requirement. All remaining 20 credits must be completed by the end of the Fall 2014 semester.  See the Traditional BSN page for the complete list of general education course requirements.
  • Second-Degree Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the Traditional BSN Program, you must have proof of degree in either an AA, AS, or Bachelor Degree AND show completion of the following general education courses with a minimum of "C" or above; Anatomy and Physiology I w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, Composition I and II, and Developmental Psychology.  Microbiology w/lab and Anatomy & Physiology II w/lab must be completed by the end of the Fall 2014 semester. Completion of Preadmission Testing by June 15, 2014

Schedule and take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).

  • Please visit the Nursing Testing page to learn more about the TEAS and for information on how to prepare and register. 
  • The cost of each TEAS test is the responsibility of the applicant. 
  • You have two opportunities to take the TEAS test by June 15, 2014.

Official OR Unofficial Transcripts- Due by June 15, 2014

  • For general education coursework taken prior to June 15, 2014, unofficial OR official transcripts are due.  You will not be reviewed for admission without them.  

Official Transcripts - Due by January 1, 2015

  • All official transcripts for the general education courses are due by January 1, 2015.  If these officials are not received you will not be permitted to start classes.
Acceptance:

Notification of acceptance to the Nursing Program by June 30, 2014

  • Notification of acceptance to the Nursing Program will be postmarked by June 30, 2014 for the 2015 Program Start Date. Nursing Program courses will begin Spring 2015.
  • If accepted to the College, please refer to Steps to Successful Enrollment.

LPN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Admission Process

RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Admission Process

Now accepting for the August 2013 Program Start Date

Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee, Program specific college-level general education course requirements, and official or unofficial college transcripts.  

  • Application deadline: on-going.
  • First-Time Degree Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the RN to BSN Program, you must have twenty-five (25) general education credits currently that must include Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, English Composition I & II and Development Psychology/Child Psychology WITH a minimum of "C" or above in each general education course requirement. All remaining general education course credits must be completed prior to beginning our Program.  See the RN to BSN page for the complete list of general education course requirements.
  • Second Degree-Seeking Students:  In order to submit an application for the RN to BSN Program, you must show proof of degree in either an AA, AS, or Bachelor Degree AND show completion of the following general education courses with a "C" or above: Anatomy and Physiology I and II w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, English Composition I & II and Developmental Psychology/Child Psychology. Requirements After Application:

  • Submit remaining official transcripts of the remaining general education courses.  RN to BSN students must complete the remaining general education courses by Program Start. All required official transcripts must be submitted before the first day of on-line instruction (NOT ORIENTATION CLASS).
  • Verification of R.N. license.
  • NO PREADMISSION TEST IS REQUIRED.

Early Admission for High School Seniors

Application:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program for the High School Graduating Class of 2018.

Enrollment to the Sentara College of Health Sciences:

Submit your completed application for admission with the non-refundable $85.00 administrative processing fee.  All attachments requested on the application must be provided at the time of application.  

  • If you are an upcoming graduate for 2014, apply between Jan. 1, 2014 and no later than March 31, 2014.
  • Notification of conditional acceptance to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree Program at Sentara College of Health Sciences is after your application has been accepted.
  • Once you have been conditionally accepted to the Nursing Program you will be assigned a recruiter who will work with you concerning information about your prerequisite general education course requirements and other steps necessary to your successful entry to the Nursing Program.
  • To apply you must meet the following:  High School GPA of 3.5 or higher as of Dec. 31, 2013; have SAT composite score of 1,500 with a minimum of 500 in verbal and 500 in math (Super scores may be used; using scores from multiple SAT exams to meet the minimum criteria) OR an ACT score of 21.
  • The GPA requirement must be maintained through the end of the senior year and the final official high school transcript must be submitted to the College.

Requirements and Process for Full Admission:

General Education Course Requirements

  • Freshman Year:  You must complete 30 credits of the required general education courses required by the College and must include: Anatomy and Physiology I w/lab, Chemistry w/lab, Statistics, Composition I and II, and Developmental Psychology.  
  • You will have through the end of the Fall 2015 semester to complete the remaining 19 credits of required general education courses and must maintain a "C" or better on all coursework.
  • College general education courses are not offered at Sentara College of Health Sciences and must be taken at an accredited institution.  
  • Advanced Placement courses with a "3" or above, Dual Enrollment courses, and CLEP/DANTES exams are acceptable.  Those transcripts may be submitted at time of application or when you have proof of completion.
  • Early Admission for High School Senior applicants who are intending to proceed through full acceptance will be required to submit college level general education transcripts and proof of enrollment during the first year and a half upon completion of each semester, to their assigned recruiter (by end of the Fall 2015 semester). 
  • Early Admission applicants who do not complete the minimum general education course requirements AND maintain the 3.3 GPA by the end of Spring 2015 semester, will become a regular applicant for the Traditional BSN Program and be notified in writing.  You must complete the remaining 19 credits by January 2015 with a "C" or better.  If you do not complete the remaining general education credits you will have to roll your application to the next session.  You must maintain the curriculum schedule set forth by the College. 
  • Once you have completed your 49 credits as described above, you will begin the Nursing Program in your second semester of your sophomore year which is Jan. 2016.
Full Acceptance:

Notification of full acceptance to the Nursing Program by June 30, 2015.

  • You will receive a letter granting full admission to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at the College when you have completed all of the above requirements up through June 30, 2015. 
  • If you do not meet the criteria, you will considered with the pool of regular applicants.

Prospective applicants and students must demonstrate appropriate, responsible, respectful and professional behavior/conduct throughout the entire admission process and in all interactions and communications with the College.  The College reserves the right to deny admission or rescind acceptance to anyone who does not conduct themselves in this manner.
