Allied Health: General Education/Prerequisite Courses & Transfer Information:

General Education Course Credits:

  • The Cardiovascular and Surgical Technology Programs require general education/prerequisite courses.
  • Sentara College of Health Sciences does not offer general education courses.
  • The college level general education courses listed below must be taken at an instituition accredited by an accredited agency recognized by the Secretary of Education of the US Department of Education.
  • General education/prerequisite courses will be evaluated and will be accepted only on evidence that the course content and instruction meets the requirements for the Program of interest.
  • Course descriptions, and/or syllabi may be requested by the College to evaluate general education/prerequisite course requirements.
  • Transcript reviews are available upon request and are highly encouraged as early as possible.  Transcripts may be reviewed by e-mail, fax, individual appointment, or by attending an Academic Planning & Information Session.
  • You do not have to submit an application to have your transcripts reviewed.  There is no obligation or charge for this service.
  • Before registering for general education courses consult with recruitment at the College to ensure you are registering for the appropriate general education courses.  
  • Cumulative GPA OR general education course GPA for the Nursing Programs should be reviewed and calculated by Sentara College of Health Sciences in order to determine eligibility to apply.
  • The College does not expire general education/prerequisite courses.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) courses with a score of 3 or better will be accepted. See below for details.
  • CLEP exams are acceptable.  See below for details.  The challenge exams docount towards GPA calculations according to the score received and will count towards credits awarded.
  • CLEP scores:  50-59 = C; 60-69 = B; 70+ = A
  • Dual Enrollment courses are acceptable. Dual enrollment courses are taken in high school and official college transcripts must be produced for review and acceptance.
  • Applicants requesting approval for general education/prerequisite credits from institutions outside of the United States must obtain a foreign transcript evaluation by an approved NACES agency and submit the NACES review to the College along with the foreign transcript.

 

Allied Health Programs: Cardiovascular Technology

For Cardiovascular Programs:  Non-Invasive Vascular Study, Adult Echocardiography, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

  • All prerequisites must be completed at an accredited institution with a “C” or better prior to starting the Program. 
  • Acceptance decisions may not be made until all required prerequisite courses are completed.
  • In order to submit an application a minimum of (10) ten prerequisite/general education course credits must be completed.  Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with the application.

  • Acceptance decisions may not be made until all required prerequisite courses are completed.
  • In order to submit an application a minimum of Anatomy & Physiology I w/lab must be completed, showing proof of enrollment in Anatomy & Physiology II w/lab. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with the application.

Allied Health Prorgram - AOS, Surgical Technology

For the Associate of Occupational Science - Surgical Technology Program:

  • All prerequisites must be completed at an accredited institution with a “C” or better prior to starting the Program. 
  • Acceptance decisions may not be made until all required prerequisite courses are completed.
  • In order to submit an application a minimum of two sciences** and two other three credits must be completed. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with the application.
