Prepare for Nursing Preadmission Testing-TEAS & CAI

If you are seeking admission to the Nursing Program you must test in order to be considered for acceptance.  Only Traditional BSN and LPN to BSN applicants are required to test.  RN to BSN applicants are NOT required to test.

Your success is important to us so we recommend preparing for the test:

  • Purchase a study manual: Visit www.atitesting.com to purchase.  Version IV is the TEAS study guide materials you will want to purchase. Version IV will be used through Oct. 31, 2010.  Version V will be implemented after Oct. 31, 2010.
  • The study manual is written specifically to address the needs of students preparing to take the TEAS or those who need additional help after testing.  The TEAS Study Manual includes review material for key topics in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage.  Practice exercises and sample tests are provided following the review material for each section.
  • TEAS Online Practice Assessment is available for students desiring additional test preparation material.  The online practice assessment includes 100 items designed to be reflective of the TEAS in both content and format.  In order to maximize the learning experience, each item is accompanied by detailed rationales for all correct and incorrect responses chosen.
  • For a complete student preparation package, the TEAS Online Practice Assessment and the TEAS Study Manual may be purchased at www.atitesting.com/onlinestore
  • We provide testing for the Nursing Program at the Chesapeake Campus. The Registered Nursing Learning Site testing is offered at the Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, upon request.
  • The score you receive on the test will be considered as part of the selective admission process.  As a point of reference, your goal should be to meet the National Average score on all four areas.
  • Students will not be permitted to use calculators.
  • Testing periods begin at time of application up through February 1, 2011 for the August 2011 Program start date.
  • You will have two attempts to take the TEAS.  If you do not meet the National average on all four areas on the first attempt, you will have a choice to reschedule the TEAS test at any time in order to improve your scores and thus your chances of being accepted in to the Nursing Program.  You may also retest if you met national average on all four areas on the first attempt.
  • Scores will be available the day of testing.  Scores may be reviewed using your ID and password.
  • Arrive on time for testing.
  • Please register as a user at www.atitesting.com before taking the test at the College.
  • Career Assessment Inventory (CAI)-no preparation is required.
