Allied Health Programs Preadmission Testing
- Cardiovascular Technology Program Testing will resume in April 2010.
- Surgical Technology Program Applicants-Testing dates are below.
Once you have applied for the Cardiovascular Technology or Surgical Technology Program, your next step is to schedule the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET).
Important Information About Testing:
- In order to be considered for admission to the desired Program, preadmission testing is required after the application has been received and processed.
- Registration is required for the HOBET test You may call Student Services at 757.388.2666 to schedule or sign-up on-line.
- The HOBET preadmission test is for Cardiovascular and Surgical Technology applicants.
- Scores will not be available the day of testing. The status of your application will be available within 30 days.
- You will have one opportunity to test per admission cycle. You must wait 45 days between testing if you need to retest.
- Testing begins promptly at the scheduled times.
- Late arrivals are not allowed to enter the testing room and will need to reschedule.
About the Test:
- The HOBET is a computer-based testing and will take approximately 2.5 hours to complete.
- You will be tested in intermediate mathematics and reading comprehension.
- The mathematics test content includes algebra, ratios, percentages, decimals, and conversion of mixed numbers to fractions.
- The math segment is based predominantly on skills learned at the middle school level.
- Math and reading comprehension scores will be translated into a grade equivalency. The College also requires high school math and reading grade level equivalency or better on the test.
- Reponses on the test will build a profile that identifies your stress level, learning style, and test-taking skills level.
- Only calculators provided by the College are allowed.
- The College recommends that you prepare for testing.
- Surgical Technology and Cardiovascular Technology Program Testing Outcomes - A specific level of achievement must be obtained on the test as follows: high school equivalency; composite score=56% or better; percentile rank=50% or better; overall composite math=59% or better; composite reading=54% or better.
