The safety of our students and staff is a key concern at Sentara College of Health Sciences. Each year, we publish and distribute a report on crime statistics for the past 3 years. The Sentara College of Health Sciences does not have campus residences and therefore we do not maintain our own security personnel.
What's in the report?
In compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, we publish statistics for certain crimes that occurred on campus or non-campus property in the past 3 years. Sentara College of Health Sciences reports crime statistics using data obtained in cooperation with local and state law enforcement agencies. The annual report is made available to all current students and employees. Prospective students and employees are notified of its existence and afforded an opportunity to request a copy. Paper copies are available upon request through the Department of Operations.
The Clery Act requires colleges and universities to include in their annual campus security reports information about where information on registered sex offenders may be obtained. To locate the whereabouts of registered sex offenders in the state of Virginia go to http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov.

Campus Community Notifications
Campus community notifications related to safety and/or security issues on campus or in the surrounding community are done in two ways.
For low level or informative notifications, Sentara College of Health Sciences uses the campus-wide e-mail sent to individuals assigned a Sentara.com e-mail address. Staff, faculty and students will receive an e-mail describing the issue and appropriate actions to take.
- In the case of an emergency; all staff/faculty/students who have signed up for the Blackboard Connect Notification System will be sent a message (phone, email, and/or text) to their designated contact number. The message will state the emergency and any actions to be taken.
Mass Emergency Notifications
Campus Operations administers the College’s mass emergency notification system. Students, faculty and staff can register to receive notifications of emergency events. These messages are only transmitted during emergencies and are an additional avenue of communication. The Dean of the College or a designee will make the decision whether to issue a timely campus safety/crime warning or emergency notification on a case-by-case basis considering the facts surrounding the incident, nature of the incident, continuing danger to the campus community, and the possible risk of compromising law enforcement efforts.
